Wading a #Ravensbourne tunnel towards new graffiti: a shocked, blue face, framed behind cobwebbed tyres.
Ho Tai was also waiting for us, the laughing Buddha, having tumbled his way downstream from a Hindu temple. We left the small, plaster statue to continue on its way to the Thames.
All part of a @BrookMillPark river clean-up with @lawrencebealecollins, the @healthyriversproject and a bunch of great volunteers.

The end of the path, at Brandy Hole on the River Crouch. The sea wall was deliberately breached 21 years ago, to create new saltmarsh habitat.
It's a road to nowhere, but sometimes, that's a good place to be.

A walk out from Battlesbridge in Essex to the severed saltmarsh way at Brandy Hole. The River Crouch's remote seawall & path were breached in 2002 to create new intertidal habitats, making up for loss elsewhere. A one-way trip to a wild destination.
This walk along the Crouch passes some expensive real estate & private moorings, but the busy bits are soon left behind. Fab, if you like this sort of thing.

Walking out from Rainham, over the wild slopes of Ingrebourne Hill, where nature thrives on former landfill. In the valley below, the lush river once formed a defensive barrier to RAF Hornchurch, a WWII spitfire base. You can still see Tett turrets here: rare, one-man pillboxes.
